Have an appointment with a Podiatrist today. Got my selection of shoes ready and loose legged trousers on.

Expect to be told I am overweight (that'll be news to me Blink). Not sure what the options could be with toes, can't walk without moving them surely?

Strangely, I'm dreading it even though there are no injections, operations etc. involved.

Hey ho off we go!

My podiatrist is really good, and very knowledgeable about RA, thankfully. She sees me every five weeks, cuts my toenails, smoothes down any rough skin, and checks the alignment - or crookedness- of my toes.I had a really sore toe last summer - the skin got broken so I kept having to have it dressed in case of infection. She also made a silicon thing for me to stop one toe from wandering under its neighbour.

Eventually I will have to have my toes straightened, but at the moment my podiatrist is doing a very good job.

I hope the appointment went well.

Hope all went well with you today Angie.

I do not have a hospital podiatrist and usually go to one in the village who's good.

I did look at the 'shoes' once and I can't say I fell in love with them but the majority of us will get
very painful feet and when that happens it's anything you can find that fits!!!

Lets know how you went on.

Hi Angie

How did you get on with the podiatrist on Monday? Hopefully they were helpful and can find a comfy solution for you.
I hope they didn't tell you that you need to lose weight --it's hard, like you say, when exercise is made more difficult by pain and stroppy joints not doing as they are told!, and it gets a bit boring to keep being told what we already know!

Love

Podiatrist was lovely, no issue about weight thankfully. Got myself wound up by nothing as usual. Blink

It isn't RA that is the main problem after all. I get to the age of 48 and find out my toe joints are too short which means my toes, particularly the big toe, can't bend properly so when I walk it causes pain. This is also what causes my foot to swivel on its ball and cause so much burning. In addition, my arches and knees bend too far and I have a pronounced supanation. (I walk on the outside of my foot).

Had lipstick painted on various parts of my feet and toes and now waiting for new, custom made orthotics and have been advised NOT to wear completely flat shoes but to have a slight heel. ThumpUp

Hoping to be able to walk a little more once I have them.

Glad you had a good appointment - the orthotics made quite a difference to me, and custom-made is better still : they did mine by making casts of my feet with plaster of Paris, so mine fit really well.
